Granular "flair" madness - second iteration

Granular "flair" madness - third iteration (made to be cube-like and simple, as discussed)

Gothic-baroque contemporary take for an urban housing/spa project. Repetition sequence is layered to produce a part to whole affect. The corner issue as well as traffic flows and sunlight determines the degree of apertures and the dynamics of gradiant variations. Next step is to create specific interior spaces in a constraint relationship with the ornate -- simultaneously addressing program. Roof conditions are still in the works. Also still need to think about the ground relationship. So much to do so little time...

Vague Mass Lattice (Partial Unit) - JDO

The Unit (partial in this case)  is organized by a highly articulated, symmetrical, and repeating lattice. This layer evokes a certain Gothic sensibility that is carried into the interior. As they move inward, the articulations transform to become furnishings, fixtures, screens, partitions, panels, and ornament that eventually will be plugged in to the somewhat regularized spaces. This component is a part of the Studio Unit, and serves as the general vocabulary for the other, larger units. It will hopefully be 3D printed for next week's review.

Connections - Katie

Mass/Void Through Population

The population of the site area with objects allows for mass/void relationships to be articulated through a use of a very small scale. The visibility through this field is interesting in an atmospheric sense, but also brings to question the organization of program and privacy/transparency.

Massing study : Central Axis Organization - 5 Unit Sizes - Dissipating by Size (see previous studies)

Deep Lattice - JDO

Next attempt at a lattice aggregation. This time, the focus was to achieve greater articulation in space. This study continues to address issues of Gothic sensibility, deep ornament, symmetry, and repetition.

Connections - Katie

Two studies concerning means of connection. The left tries a connection which is towards the back, fluid throughout.  The right tries a core through the center with overlapping entities.

Newton's Force Field

This is a study of three differing size spheres in order to see how they are interacting with each on a microlevel, which I think could become a way to approach programming.  The basic principle is Newton's Second Law, the Law of Inertia, which (more or less) states the less matter an object has, the further it will travel, assuming the same amount of acceleration is applied to all objects.

I conducted several experiments that followed the projections of particles moving in Newton's force field.  I then chose one instance and cut a serial section to see the how the cuts are layering and creating density.

Lattice Studies - JDO

A few tests making lattices. The goal is to create massive visual impact, maintaining a certain sensibility of Gothic ornament. How can this Gothic sensibility be made contemporary, avoiding a direct applique of the style? How can this lattice have more articulation in space? Even with spatial depth, can it be more than a layer between interior and exterior?

KIP - studio update - Programmatic Densities

Using the generation system I showed Monday I explored programmatic densities that could occur inside the given parameters.  I plan to iterate a lot more of these to find instances that guide specific programmatic tasks.
