Apartment Suite Unit - interior test render

With grunge or without grunge filter?

test for big render - Katie

test angle for big render with panels and glazing

Test for large Render - JDO

This is the final site model 1"=200"

This is a quick version of be the big rendering for the boards. The ground level has been updated and the pool has been worked on too. Any major changes need to be made to the model in this scene?  If not, I will move toward the maxwell version of the rendering as well as begin producing the exploded axon...

Maxwell Material Tips

Here is a link that has some maxwell tips for materials, especially glass.

I tried out different perforated materials. Some work better than others. None of them apply the perforations across the entire material. All of the materials were applied uniformly to all the irregular particles. So I imagine that the perforations should have applied to the entire particle, which didn't happen. Thoughts on how to fix this? I also haven't been able to find out to scale the material. But I did change the material of the floor slabs! -Sarah

Initial Renders

These have not been processed at all. I'm not sure how to to fix the sparkling that I get in some renders. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I'm trying another render using a different kind of glass, perhaps that will help?

models

I remodeled most of the components of the building. I will be using 2-ply bristol board for this massing model. 2-ply comes out to be 0.03" so hopefully this stacking method will be useful for the bigger model. I also plan to use spackle or putty to round out the edges to create the smooth curvatures of the building. Here are also other images of my edited building. hope you guys had a wonderful holiday!

Night rendering attempt

First attempt at a night render (1 minute in) of approach from the west. Any recommendions for "dusk" night rendering settings? (ie: time of day environment setting, ISO, shutter, tricks, light placements, materials, etc).

VS4 - JDO

physical model test- Katie

Looking into building a physical model...stacking 1/16" strips, horizontally or vertically, for 1/200 scale (site model).

VS4-THURSDAY SUBMISSION

For high resolution version, see visual studies submissions folder on JUNO. For some reason this version has linework covering over the section cut when it's not supposed to...

VS 4 - Katie

VS_Final Submission

Kip - physical model idea

above is a quick diagram of the physical model I was thinking about doing based on our discussion on biomechanical structures.  The parts would be hollowed out 3d prints connected with hinge joints and then a spring joint using shocks from remote control racing cars.  The top diagram shows how the connection would work.  The bottom render isn't complete with all of the hinge joints but close enough to what the final output would look like.  The thickness of the 3d prints would vary from 1/2" to 1- 3/4"...  Thoughts...?

VS4

Kip - building frame + structure

Above is an example of the "exterior" of my building... now I have to fill it with more pods.
Above is a bio-mechanic way of looking at my structure that would be inside the exterior skin.

This is the first draft of my visual studies.  It is very conceptual and needs more specificity within the actual architecture.  However, I think it is starting to get across my vision of the building and the affect I am trying to achieve in the spa.

MAYA CLEANUP

Old iteration (in red... don't know why it rendered in red) vs newest. I was cleaning out my maya file because it kept crashing with fatal error everytime I inserted edge loop for simple stairs and came across this forgotten iteration (a layer turned off among many others). There is a level of control and interesting pattern I like about the red one where my newest one lacks (though the newest one has more depth). Should I look into this more in depth (no pun intended) or delete the red iteration forever and move on?

Also advice on fatal errors (how to avoid, how to resolve) is more than welcomed!

Rough Section and perspective Elevation of Facade

Here is a rough section cut of my model and perspective dealing with my hexagonal logic patterns
